Nikon Camera & Lens Repair in the USA

What We Do Best

  • Complete service for Z-mount and F-mount: shutters, sensors, boards, firmware;
  • Lens repairs: AF-S SWM, diaphragm units, flex cables, zoom mechanisms, decentering;
  • Water/saltwater damage treatment and corrosion cleanup;
  • Data recovery from SD/XQD/CFexpress media.

Typical Nikon Issues We Fix

  • FEE on aperture-ring lenses; ring not at minimum or faulty coupling.
  • ERR on top LCD due to shutter/aperture linkage or body fault.
  • CHA/CHR, “This card cannot be used” — slot pins, media, or formatting issues.
  • “This battery cannot be used” on Z/DSLR — contacts, firmware, or pack compliance.
  • AF-S SWM motor failure: hunting, squeal, or no focus.
  • VR/IBIS faults: image jump, blur when stabilization is ON, abnormal noise.
  • Oil/dust spots on sensor (incl. early D600 units) — cleaning or shutter block swap.
  • Coolpix messages: “Lens error”, “File does not contain image data”.

Nikon Speedlight & Accessories

We service Speedlights, hot-shoe mounts, TTL boards; fix cracked LCDs, battery doors, sync ports; update firmware and replace trigger circuits.

FAQ

1. Do you calibrate back/front focus on DSLR and Z with FTZ?

Yes. We tune PDAF/contrast AF, apply AF Fine-Tune, and check centering across focal lengths.

2. Do you fix FEE/ERR/CHA errors?

We inspect aperture lever coupling, shutter block, and card interface, replace worn parts, and run full tests.

3. What about VR/IBIS problems or rattling sounds?

We diagnose the stabilization module, update firmware, re-align or replace the unit if required.

4. Can you replace an AF-S SWM motor?

Yes. We install a new SWM assembly and recalibrate autofocus.

5. Do you handle battery errors on Z-series?

We clean contacts, test EN-EL15b/c, check firmware, and repair the power board if needed.

6. How often should I clean the sensor on Nikon Z/DSLR, and can I do it at home?

Start with a hand blower only. If spots remain, use the correct swabs and solution for your sensor type. Do not use canned air or household wipes. Oil smears or streaks → bring it in for a professional wet clean.

7. What should I do after water or saltwater exposure?

Power off immediately, remove battery and card. Do not dry with heat and do not charge it. Seal with desiccant and get it to us the same day. We rinse and neutralize boards, stop corrosion, and re-seat connectors.

8. A firmware update failed and the camera won’t boot. Can you recover it?

Yes. We use service jigs/boot recovery to reflash the main board, restore modules (AF/VR), verify power rails and memory, and load the correct firmware.

9. My Z-series misses focus indoors. Will calibration help?

Native Z lenses don’t use AF Fine-Tune. We align the AF module, check flange distance and IBIS seating. For F-mount via FTZ we do AF Fine-Tune and lens group alignment.

10. VR/IBIS causes micro-blur on a tripod. Is that normal?

On a rigid tripod stabilizers can introduce motion. Switch VR/IBIS OFF on tripod. If blur persists even with stabilization off, we’ll test the unit and mount.

11. Which memory cards should I use for Z6/Z7/Z8, and how do I avoid CHA/CHR?

Use reliable XQD/CFexpress Type-B (or fast UHS-II V60/V90 for supported bodies). Format in camera, don’t remove cards while writing, update firmware, and keep slot contacts clean. We replace bent pins and faulty readers.

12. Video overheats or recording stops early. What are the fixes?

We renew thermal pads and clean airflow paths, check power delivery, and advise settings that reduce heat. External recorders and mild active cooling help for long 4K/Log takes.

13. When should a shutter be replaced, and what are the symptoms?

Signs: ERR codes, banding, uneven exposure, black frames, unusual clicks. We install a new shutter block, calibrate exposure and timing, and verify the actuation counter behavior.

14. How can I check for lens decentering at home?

Shoot a flat, detailed surface at wide aperture and infinity. If one corner is soft while the opposite is sharp, decentering is likely. We realign optical groups and set the correct flange distance.

15. Can hot pixels and long-exposure noise be fixed?

We perform pixel remapping, update firmware, and verify sensor temps. Enable Long Exposure NR for night work and use stable external power to reduce heat buildup.

16. How long does a sensor clean take, and what’s included?

Most sensor cleans take 20–30 minutes. We perform a pre-scan at f/16, blower pass, dry swipe, wet swabs for stubborn spots, edge cleanup, final test shot, and optional pixel remap if needed.
